Pickerel Lake Outfitters is now taking bookings for the spring and fall bear hunting season.  We take two to four hunters at one time for the six day hunt.  Give us a call if interested.

Our 2016 Fall Bear Hunts were a great success with 100% harvest rate of black bears.  We did get some great trail camera photos which we’ve published on the photos page.

We have a cancellation for this fall for a bear hunt.  Date is Saturday  September 17th to 24th.  If interested please call us at 807-543-3113. This hunt you’d be able to do a grouse hunt as well as season will be open.

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has made it official that there will be a trial spring black bear hunting season for the coming 2016 season.  We will be offering a spring bear hunt starting May 8th.  The actual opening date is May 1st to June 15th.

Here at Pickerel Lake Outfitters we are taking bookings for the 2016 Ontario Bear Hunting season.  Dates are as follows:

August 20th to 27th
August 27th to September 3rd
September 3rd to 10th
September 10th to 17th
September 17th to 24th

We have our first groups for bear hunting and the bear hunt is going well.  In the first couple of days we’ve gotten 3 bears with the groups seeing 9 bears so far.  We’ve got a mom and cubs on one of the baits so we’ve stopped hunting that bait site even though we’re still baiting it.

We started last week with the first baits at all of our black bear hunting stands.  It takes about 8 hours, 31 miles on the ATV and 40 miles on the truck to get most of  the bear hunting sites baited.  Blueberries are just starting to turn blue and need more heat and sunshine for a great crop of them.

Should be a great year for the bears.

We are taking bookings for the 2015 Ontario Bear Hunting season.  Dates begin on Saturday, August 15th and continue through 5 weeks of hunts.

The blueberries were burnt off in our area pretty quickly.  We have an overabundance of different bears hitting our baits.  We’ve been baiting since early July with plenty of feed to fatten them up.  We’ve had a couple of groups in camp so far and they’ve done very well.  First group saw a total of 16 bears and harvested a couple.  One was average size, 200 field dressed and the other was 300+.    The other group saw about 8 bears and shot two with one being a very large bear with a bit of white on its chest.  Coats on these bears were really thick and nice.

Will be good to know the ages of these bears in February when our hunters let us know the age.
