Successful 2013 Bear Hunt

The 2013 bear hunting season came to a close for us on Saturday.  We had a total of 14 hunters at the main camp.  They saw a total of 60 bears.  3 bears qualified for Pope & Young.  I hope to get some pictures to post.

3rd week of bear hunting

September 9th 2013 –  Our 3rd week of bear hunters saw a total of 19 bears and half the hunters tagged out. This included our outpost bear hunters as well as here at the main camp.  Outpost bear hunters had wolves coming in on the baits  and they couldn’t get a good shot at bears as they were hunting with bows.  Weather didn’t cooperate either so made for some challenging hunting.

2nd group of bear hunters

Our 2nd group of bear hunters have tagged out on bears.  The week was pretty hot as well but we had a couple of days bears were moving.  Berries have pretty much died off.  They did see multiple bears out on baits

1st Bear Hunters 2013

Our 1st group of bear hunters have come and gone.  A nice group of fellows from Ohio.  Pretty awesome jalepeno cornbread they brought!  All together saw a total of 13 bears and everyone tagged out.  We are at 100% for seeing bears and 10% for harvesting bears.

Ontario Bear Hunting Season starts

August 21/2013 – The Ontario Bear hunting  season officially started on August 15th.  We started our bear hunting on Sunday and its been really hot for hunting.  Hunters have all seen bears but haven’t been able to connect yet with anything.  We’ve got lots of great sign on all the baits.  Yesterday was the hottest day of the summer and we had a whopper of a storm come through last night with hail the size of a “Toonie”($2.00 Canadian coin).

May 16/2013 Update

May 16/2013 – Ice is off all the lakes and we’ve had a bit of rain a couple of days ago.  That should green up the grass for the bears.  They need quite a bit of green grass in the spring to blow out the bowel plug from the winter and be able to start eating their normal diet.

Late Spring 2013

March 18/2013 – Ontario Bear hunting news

Wow! What a lot of snow last night and still going strong.  So much for having an early spring and getting the planes in the water!  Last year we had ice off on April 8th.  This year we still have 2 feet of ice or more.

Greg usually like to get started early with cleaning up the bear hunting sites as we have trees fallen over onto the baits or our treestands have fallen over with the tree.  We are supposed to get 8′ of snow and its well on its way there.
